Marco Williams ’75: My documentary “The Undocumented” is a ninety-minute cinema verite documentary that exposes a little known consequence of current United States immigration policy.  Since 1998 more than 2000 dead bodies and skeletal remains of illegal border crossers have been found in the desert in southern Arizona.  The film chronicles Arizona’s deadly summer months, following humanitarians and Border Patrol agents who fight to prevent migrant deaths, medical investigators and the Mexican Consulate who work to identify dead border crossers, and Mexican families who struggle to accept the loss of their loved ones. When I was made aware of this issue, I knew I had to make a film about this humanitarian crisis. The project has received support from several foundations, and it will be broadcast on Public Television, but I need your support to finish the film and to help bring awareness to this important issue. I have just launched a ‘Kickstarter’ campaign—a crowd-sourcing effort– to raise the final funds.  With pledges starting at $10, now you too can take an active role in this project. Every donation brings this vital issue one step closer to the public.  I greatly appreciate any contribution – whether it is a donation, a post on your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or forwarding to friends—every, and any action will help! Please check out my Kickstarter page. Watch the video to see for yourself what is happening in Arizona. With gratitude, Marco

Williams Cole ’86: I’m proud to announce that to celebrate the Brooklyn Rail’s 10th anniversary, Ted Hamm and I have edited a provocative, informative and enjoyable anthology of nonfiction, entitled Pieces of a Decade: Brooklyn Rail Nonfiction 2000-2010.  And what a decade it’s been!  It includes writings by and interviews with the likes of Howard Zinn, Reverend Billy, Jane Jacobs, Danny Hoch, Tariq Ali, Christian Parenti, Eugene Jarecki, Gabriel Thompson, Heather Rogers, Rob Eshelman, Jason Flores-Williams, Doug Cordell, Ryan Grim, Matty Vaz, John Crawford, Dore Ashton and many others. It also features a tribute to the late documentary filmmaker and friend Garrett Scott. This collection covers changes in many corners of Brooklyn over the past ten years while presenting unique perspectives on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, living up to the Rail’s slogan: “critical perspectives on arts, politics and culture.”  Here is a short YouTube video we did to promote Pieces of a Decade at the Brooklyn Book Festival.

I have recently produced a film with Barbara Kopple, entitled Gun Fight which premiered on HBO on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 9:30 pm EST.   Check your HBO schedule for additional showings, as well as HBO on Demand.  Also take a look at a piece I wrote in the Brooklyn Rail entitled My Years With Guns.   I send my best to all.
