Fall Tour in the Berkshires

Dear Educational Consultant,

You are invited to participate in our Fall Tour in the Berkshires featuring four schools, each with its own engaging identity—Berkshire, Buxton, Miss Hall’s and Bard College at Simon’s Rock. You may read a description of each of these schools at the end of the letter.

The tour will be held on Monday and Tuesday, October 5 and 6, with a welcoming reception on Sunday evening. We have chosen this particular time for a reason. While experiencing firsthand all that our schools have to offer, the Berkshire hillsides will be ablaze with autumn color—a sight that, every fall, attracts people from around the world. You might also consider coming early or staying on to enjoy the area’s arts, culture and outdoor activities. You’ll find a comprehensive website that lists regional museums, venues and attractions at www.berkshires.org.

The tour is limited to 14 consultants, so we encourage you to register early!

Your transportation during the tour (including to and from the airport or train station), lodging Sunday and Monday nights, and meals Sunday evening and Monday and Tuesday will be provided. If you wish to reserve a place on the tour, please complete the on-line registration form and include a deposit of $200. It is expected that participants will stay for the entire tour. The full deposit will be returned to you at the beginning of the tour and is also refundable if you cancel your reservation before September 1, 2009.

For questions, feel free to contact me. We look forward to seeing you this fall!

Berkshire School • Sheffield, MA
Berkshire is a rigorous college-preparatory institution that has flourished for more than a century in a New England setting of extraordinary natural beauty. It is a welcoming environment where a diverse group of young men and women can develop intellectual foundations and traits of character and leadership that will permit them, in the words of the school’s motto, to learn “not just for school, but for life.” A medium-sized boarding school with a distinctly global character, Berkshire is home to 373 students from across the country and around the world and experienced teachers who are dedicated to their craft.

Buxton School • Williamstown, MA
Buxton School is a progressive co-ed boarding and day high school with approximately 95 students. Presently situated on her family estate, Ellen Geer Sangster founded Buxton over 80 years ago. Today, Buxton continues its mission to teach through intention, experience and engagement, asking the most¬—and expecting the best—of its students. A caring faculty and community of people work together to both nurture and challenge students with rigorous academics and a varied and active arts program. Buxton’s commitment to diversity serves to enrich students’ experiences at school as well as in the world beyond. A newly renovated classroom/science laboratory complex and soon-to-be-built fine-arts building provide students with the best of both worlds: the charm and history of traditional buildings with the opportunities offered by state-of-the-art facilities.

Miss Hall’s School • Pittsfield, MA
Miss Hall’s School, an all-girls school, augments a sophisticated college-preparatory curriculum with two innovative, nationally acclaimed programs. Through Horizons, girls work off-campus to hone communication and problem-solving skills, refine ethical positions, and strengthen financial literacy. Through PAaLS, girls design programs around the themes of “voice” and leadership. Full offerings in the arts and athletics, rigorous Advanced Placement and Honors courses, $14 million of new facilities, ESL, and girls from 20 states and 13 countries provide a stimulating environment for the next generation of global leaders.

Bard College at Simon’s Rock • Great Barrington, MA
Bard College at Simon’s Rock is the country’s only four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences specifically designed to provide bright, highly motivated students with the opportunity to begin college after the tenth or eleventh grade. At Simon’s Rock, students experience a transformative education in the company of smart, independent, creative peers who share their excitement for learning and their desire to be part of a vibrant intellectual community. Since all of our students begin college early, we combine the rigorous and engaging academic experience they are seeking with a college campus specifically tailored to the developmental needs of 16- and 17-year-olds. Students receive the Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree after two years of study, and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree after four. Full and partial tuition scholarships are available.
