Exploring Winter Study: A Different Kind of Term
At Buxton School, our Winter Study program reflects our commitment to curiosity, creativity, and connection. This year, students can choose from an inspiring array of elective courses designed to deepen knowledge, foster personal growth, and ignite passions.
Astronomy – takes students on a journey through the cosmos, from the solar system to the mysteries of dark matter and wormholes, combining reading, projects, and stargazing under clear (and cold!) winter skies.
A Brief History of the Second World War – examines the causes, events, and lasting impacts of this global conflict through primary and secondary sources, with a focus on the diverse experiences and atrocities of the war.
Kitchen Workshop –Â offers a hands-on exploration of cooking as an art of mindfulness, creativity, and sustainability, turning simple ingredients into meaningful meals while minimizing waste.
Wintering: A Winter Wellness – encourages students to embrace the season with activities like meditation, yoga, journaling, and outdoor fun, inspired by Katherine May’s Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat.
Musical: Ordinary Days – brings theater to life as students perform Adam Gwon’s heartfelt musical about connection and finding beauty in everyday moments.
Passion Project – empowers students to pursue independent projects, fostering skills in creativity, goal-setting, and problem-solving, culminating in inspiring presentations.
These courses go beyond traditional academics, immersing students in hands-on, experiential learning that emphasizes real-world connections and personal exploration. Whether gazing at the stars, cooking with intention (and learning to cook!), delving into history, or creating something entirely new.
Buxton students are active participants in their education, applying knowledge in meaningful ways and discovering the joy of learning through doing.
