Activities

Our students are kept busy through an ever-changing calendar of events, excursions and activities. Students of any degree of interest and ability are urged to take part, and everyone is counted on to support each other’s efforts — as co-participant, audience member or encouraging friend.

Rec Committee

Each Friday, we come together as a school to enjoy a creative activity organized by the student-run Recreation Committee. Ranging from “skit night” to a campus-wide game of Capture the Flag to a dance party, our Fridays are never mundane – and always a good time to reconnect, blow off steam and have a blast.

Project Day

Each term, Buxton hosts a “project day,” where students can devote a whole day to a personal project of their choice. Past student projects have included painting murals in the Main House, making wooden benches for the soccer fields, putting on a play in a day, working in Buxton’s herb garden, and more!

Special Events

Throughout the year at Buxton, there are a number of special events and celebrations. We start and end each year with picnics at local parks and lakes. In the fall, the seniors plan a surprise Mountain Day where, instead of going to class, the whole school goes on a hike on a local mountain with a picnic at the summit. Before Winter Break, there is a school-wide secret gift exchange over the course of the week, culminating in a Holiday Party where the final, and most extravagant, hand-made gifts are exchanged. In the spring, Buxton hosts a spring dance, Spring Thing. And throughout the year, there are student-led celebrations for Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Earth Day and more!

Student Clubs

It is incredibly easy for students (and faculty!) at Buxton to create and run clubs, and to receive support from the school. Some of our current and long-running clubs and student organizations include:

  • POC Union
  • Jewish Student Union
  • AAPI Union
  • Activism Club
  • Math Team
  • Knitting Club
  • Fermentation Club
  • Dungeons and Dragons Club
  • Environmental Club

At Buxton we learn not only in the classroom, but in the community. We learn how to be good to each other and how to support each other. Buxton has so much to offer students, both inside the classroom and outside of it."

We learn how to work with others and respect each other’s spaces. Our education surrounds us and we learn new things everyday.”
