Kenny Rivero – Buxton Artist in Residence

Kenny Rivero was on campus for 2 weeks over this past summer making art. He is a Buxton alum ’99 and Buxton’s first artist in residence. He has been busy in the studio and reconnecting with the campus and his memories of being a student.

Rivero is a painter, a sculpture artist, a drummer and a stand-up comic. He calls himself a creator of installation art and a sculptor using reclaimed materials. He teaches at the Mass College of Art and Design and many other places. Some of the pieces he created here on campus will be exhibited at MASS MoCA in the spring of 2018.

Kenny has been leading a nomadic life in recent years which has been tough so he is happy to be settling down in New Haven, CT for awhile when he leaves Williamstown.

He has come full circle and it feels strange to be back in many ways. Kenny shared a few poignant memories – when he was a student here many classrooms were heated by wood stoves so they smell different and he remembers freezing on stage during a comedy routine. OUCH!
